Software Engineering & Development

A track for engineers who build and ship software, covering the range from architecture and distributed systems design down to platform-specific development and day-to-day engineering discipline. Courses are hands-on and built around real codebases, not slideware.

This page covers the first 3 of 30 courses in the track. Courses run as private cohorts with a minimum class size of 5 participants.

Designing High-Performance Distributed Systems using AKF Scale Cube

Teaches the AKF Scale Cube model for thinking through scale in three dimensions — duplicating workload, splitting by function, and splitting by data — so participants can diagnose why a system stops scaling and choose the right axis to fix it on, instead of defaulting to “add more servers.”

Android: Modern Android, Testing & Security

Covers current Android development practice end to end: modern architecture patterns, a real testing strategy (unit, instrumentation, UI), and the security hardening — secure storage, permissions, network trust — that keeps a shipped app from being the easy way in.

Application Performance Tuning & Optimization (Web & Mobile)

A profiling-first course: finding the actual bottleneck before touching code, across both web and mobile applications. Covers front-end and back-end performance techniques, mobile-specific constraints like battery and memory, and how to verify a fix actually helped rather than just feeling faster.
